What has been your experience with glucosamine and chondroitin in regard to your arthritis?
I just started to take glucosamine, chondroitin, and msm in hopes to relieve the pain in my hip due to arthritis.
I personally have never used it, but I used to work at a pharmacy and G&C is what the pharmacist would recommend over anything else that was available OTC (over the counter).
I also know a few people who have used it, some for others than arthritis, but all of them were pleased with the results.

After a series of disasters with a very bad dentist, I have been left with many teeth that cannot be saved. (Sorry for the length of the post, just trying to get all the details in.) The combination of Clucosamine & Chondroitin has been studied in clinical trials, and found to be effective in treating osteoarthritis. Adding MSM to the mix creates an unknown factor. The side effects of all three combined are not well-understood, and thresholds for therapeutic and safe dosages are not established.
MSM toxicity and side effects are not well established, but studies with lab rats show virtually no toxic effects at dosages up to 1.5 kg MSM/kg body weight. People with allergies to sulfa drugs may react unfavorably to this compound.
Glucosamine is known to cause liver or kidney problems in some people, particularly ones that take megadoses. The biggest problem is that the safe dosage range is not known. Someone with liver or kidney problems, or someone taking other medications affecting the liver should talk to their doc about taking this medicine, and possibly have their liver enzymes checked periodically.
Chondroitin appears to have every low toxicity and few side effects.
The biggest problem with this type of supplement may be from impurities.
Maybe he could try a tablet that contains only chondroitin and glucosamine without the MSM – this is taken by many people without causing side effects.

If shellfish is high in purines, it will add more uric acid to your system. If your body gets too much uric acid, it pools in the joints, then forms crystals, then immune system attacks, then you get inflammation and the painful gout.
I don't know if the amount of shellfish in the GC would be high enough to cause problems. Talk to your doctor.
Check http://www.best-gout-remedies.com, it's the best website I've found for general info on anything gout. They may or may not have anything about GC, but it'll help you do other things to get rid of your gout.

yes you can give the glucosamine to the dog just be carefull of the dose. it is just a joint supplement. Have given it to my dog and horses.

you have to be taking them for three to four months be for they kick in so keep going with them they do help and prevent some of the deterioration
