Some types of cancer, if detected in early stages need not be fatal, while others spread rapidly and can cause death. There are many types of cancer, but the most common types were breast, colorectal, lung, prostate, skin and testicle. All these involve the malfunction of genes that control growth cell and cell division. Can it be prevented, indeed even survive? According to the ACS, the relative survival rate at 5 years for all cancers diagnosed between 1995 and 2000 is up 64%.
There are some simple steps that can result in not only reducing your risk, but ultimately save his life:
– Nutrition and Exercise: There is solid scientific evidence that a healthy diet combined with regular physical activity are not only necessary to maintain a healthy body weight but also reduce the risk of cancer. Some studies have found that people who eat diets rich in vegetables and fruits, and low in meat and / or animal fats have a lower risk of some cancers, the most common. As mentioned above, the consumption of snuff has been associated with nearly 200,000 deaths year. Quitting smoking or snuff habit can be incredibly difficult, but add 15-20 years to your life.
– Protect the skin: Cancer skin is not always fatal, but it is still very common. In 2004, more than 1 million skin cancers diagnosed – could have been avoided by simply using sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and avoid sunbathing.
– Reduce stress: It is difficult to draw the correlation between stress and cancer. Some Studies indicate that individuals who developed cancer were in particularly high stress positions in life. There are many theories that suggest that cancer is similar an immune system disease and stress is an important factor in reducing the body's natural immunity.
Cancer does not have to be a death sentence. There are many advances taking place every year on medications to prolong the lives of cancer patients. But perhaps the biggest opportunity is not with the cancer treatment, but rather the prevention of cancer in the first place. By making some behavioral changes to their lives that substantially reduce the risk of cancer and improve the quality of your life.
