Johns Wort

How much of the herb St. Johns should I take?
I just got some St. Johns wort, said that taking it three times a day, but I wondered if I could take three pills at once when I sleep? or should I start out taking pills and gradually go to a higher dose?
3 days First, as shown below. It should not be taken as a sole treatment for depression or anxiety. Ask yourself: "Why do I feel depressed, and when I first start feeling this way: I can associate this with any recent change in my life "(If so, it is likely that depression Situational: counseling, cognitive-behavioral therapy is indicated). Or, it was more gradual, with no apparent cause? (Poor nutrition, hypothyroidism, environmental toxicity, or reactions to certain drugs, etc, it becomes more likely the cause). Antidepressants work quicker than the next 2 to 6 weeks, but may have to adjust the dosage, or types, whereas St. John's wort is effective for most people, tolerance does not develop, and the few side effects often occur, and even then usually not serious. It does not cause trouble sleeping, or weight changes, but usually takes at least two, and usually 4-6 weeks to take effect, but can work quicker than antidepressants, sometimes. A recent, independent German double blind study showed that it is as effective such as sertraline (marketed in the USA as Zoloft: a commonly prescribed antidepressant) in cases of major depression, with far fewer side effects, and which were generally better tolerated, with a lower rate of discontinuation. Unlike antidepressants, where sexual dysfunction is a common side effect, happens much more rarely with St. John's wort (I have noticed no effect in this area). Remember back to a time when life was full of promise, or a day was particularly good, or possibly excited from a good result. Emotional states are associated with memories, and if there is major depression, this method can help. A multidimensional approach to treating depression without medication follows. All except for no. (7.) They are safe to use with medication, but no grass San Juan, because of interactions, and is sensitive to anything else check out your doctor first. (1.) Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (Certified free of mercury) is best if consumed with an antioxidant, like an orange or grapefruit or its juice. If vitamin E is added, must be certified, 100% Source natural, or may be synthetic: avoid it. In the winter months, replace two Omega 3 with a teaspoon of cod liver oil, if not getting enough exposure Daily bright light (http://www.mercola.com/ SearchBar: type: "vitamin D"). Also take a vitamin B complex, which is certified as 100% natural, a deficiency in vitamin B9 (folic acid, or folate) is known to cause depression. Around 30% – 40% of depressed people have lower levels Low vitamin B12. Depressed women using the contraceptive pill may benefit from supplements of vitamin B6. ~ ~ ~ (2.) Work up slowly to at least 20 minutes minutes of exercise every day, or 30 to 60 mns, 5 times a week. Too much exercise can cause stress, you do not want when it comes to depression. ~ ~ ~ (3.) Occupational therapy (keeping busy allows little time for unproductive introspection, and keeps mental activity of the less desirable areas of the brain). (4.) Using daily, and a relaxation method * / * or yoga, and / or Tai Chi. ~ ~ ~ (5.) Initially, at least, some sort of counseling, cognitive preference either Behavio (u) ral Therapy, or Rational Emotive Behavio (u) ral Therapy. ~ ~ ~ (6.) Maintain a mood chart, and schedule daily activities. ~ ~ ~ (7). As options, if desired, either a known cure, from herbs such as St. John's wort, (get a variety of Germany, if possible, vary premises in effectiveness. Take 3 times daily with meals) or supplements, as the same, or Inositol (from vitamin and health food stores, some supermarkets, or by mail: section view 55). If 5HTP is used to increase serotonin levels (which are low in depressed people) is best taken with a high carbohydrate meal, Minimum protein, such as pasta with tomato and basil, and avoid protein for 90 minutes before and after to maximize the amount of cross the blood / brain. In addition, 80% of people in the Western world have low magnesium levels, and are known to cause depression and anxiety. Try the magnesium supplement types shown in http://www.real-depression-help.com/ Some of these will be available in pharmacies or supermarkets. Low levels of calcium and potassium can also cause depression. Have your blood tests, and correct any deficiencies, preferably through improved nutrition. Improvement was noted in just one week if deficiency is the cause. Also, iodised salt is much preferable to regular salt (one of the treatments in books on depression is iodine drops). Try imagine, as vividly as possible, a time in the not too distant future, when you have overcome this setback, and things are much better. * See Section 2 in the first 3 pages and also pages R, C, I, and section 11, http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/ ~ shaneris Anxiety, Section 6, first Page N.

Spend 1 or 2 days in St. Augustine at most. The beach there is acceptable but the primary draw is the historic district and the Castillo de San Marcos monument. St. Augustine has more of an "old south" feel, there are confederate flags flying and plenty of bikers. Same deal with Daytona Beach. The Northern Florida beaches are wide with hard packed gray sand. In my opinion, you will find better Atlantic beaches further south such as Hutchinson Island, Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach. For the best beaches in Florida, you should also visit the west coast beaches, my recommendation is Fort Myers Beach, Naples, or Sanibel/Captiva. The sand is powdery white and the water is calmer.

THIS is the menu of plans they have to choose from as a federal employee:
"Members of Congress receive retirement and health benefits under the same plans available to other federal employees. They become vested after five years of full participation.
Members elected since 1984 are covered by the Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS). Those elected prior to 1984 were covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). In 1984 all members were given the option of remaining with CSRS or switching to FERS.
As it is for all other federal employees, congressional retirement is funded through taxes and the participants' contributions. Members of Congress under FERS contribute 1.3 percent of their salary into the FERS retirement plan and pay 6.2 percent of their salary in Social Security taxes.
Members of Congress are not eligible for a pension until they reach the age of 50, but only if they've completed 20 years of service. Members are eligible at any age after completing 25 years of service or after they reach the age of 62. Please also note that Member's of Congress have to serve at least 5 years to even receive a pension.
The amount of a Congressperson's pension depends on the years of service and the average of the highest 3 years of his or her salary. By law, the starting amount of a Member's retirement annuity may not exceed 80% of his or her final salary.
According to the Congressional Research Service, 413 retired Members of Congress were receiving federal pensions based fully or in part on their congressional service as of Oct. 1, 2006. Of this number, 290 had retired under CSRS and were receiving an average annual pension of $60,972. A total of 123 Members had retired with service under both CSRS and FERS or with service under FERS only. Their average annual pension was $35,952 in 2006."
ACCURATE information on retirement:
Easy SUMMARY of ACCURATE information:
"Members who have participated in the congressional pension system are vested after 5 years of service. A full pension is available to Members 62 years of age with 5 years of service; 50 years or older with 20 years of service; or 25 years of service at any age. A reduced pension is available depending upon which of several different age/service options is chosen. If Members leave Congress before reaching retirement age, they may leave their contributions behind and receive a deferred pension later.
How much they receive depends on a complicated formula based on when they joined Congress, how old they are at the time of retirement, how many years of service they had at the time of retirement (including previous military or other federal service), their salary, and which pension option they chose when they enrolled. In any case, a Member's pension amount may not exceed 80% of his/her salary upon retirement."
…
"The average annuity for retired Members, as of 1998, was either $50,616 [for those that retired under CSRS] or $46,908 [for Members that retired under FERS]. However, these averages don't take into account any additional funds these Members may have also accrued through investments in the Thrift Savings Plan described above.
Congressional pensions are funded the same way as those of other federal employees: through a combination of general tax provisions and contributions from the participants. Members of Congress in the FERS plan must pay 1.3% of their salary to FERS and 6.2% in Social Security taxes.
For more detailed information concerning pension benefits and age and service formulas under both CSRS and FERS, I recommend you obtain a copy of "Retirement Benefits for Members of Congress", a report by Patrick Purcell of the Congressional Research Service. [CRS Report RL30631, July 31, 2000]. CRS reports are free, but can only be obtained by requesting them through the office of a Member of Congress. "
If you review the FACTS, which I have documented with the correct sources, you will see that:
members of Congress PAY for their health insurance (subsidized just like the other federal employees, like a clerk at the White House would be)
they have co-pays, deductibles, etc.
they do NOT get "free" prescriptions
they can have LOUSY health care packages–take the next step and click on the EVALUATIONS of the plans–some have barely over 50% satisfaction with those on them.
What IS different is two things:
these are NOT regular plans–as the membership is far more limited AND the people are power players they will NOT so likely have legit claims denied as REGULAR FOLKS because the insurers know that this would lead to actual ENFORCEMENT of contract law and their corporate heads on a platter
AND
no doc or hospital is going to mistreat a Congressman or his immediate family or someone he makes a fuss over–they don't want the bad PR, the investigations, etc. that a Congressman can launch.
So if you think Congress has it perfect (which they don't) IF you would DEMAND that both contract and antitrust laws be enforced with OUR insurance policies, that would go a LONG WAY to reducing abuse.
Thanks for asking for FACTS. Interesting how the media LIE and the general public is about 180 off the mark on this information, isn't it? Ask yourself who benefits.

Very a good article and reader comments here. I would like to point out that others have proposed a varying viewpoint, particularly in terms of natural health. Has anyone here run across more interesting information on the Internet, and would you point me in that direction?

Have you recently started taking antidepressants? If so, that would be my guess as to why you are feeling so disconnected.
i feel sorry that there are people arguing on this thread when we should be nurturing each other. we are attacking each other because our societies set us up in perpetual competition with each other. we shouldn’t eat what we are told to eat by the people trying to sell it to us, we shouldn’t eat chemicals and processed foods and such high amounts of nutritionally barren ‘products’ (not even food). we should be conscious of everything we put in our bodies and do so with love and respect. peace.
Claims that it cures ADHD would never be made. Both for FDA regulations, and the fact that there are usually many factors that go into ADHD. So we don’t believe L-theanine alone is going to cure it, but there is science that shows it might help ADHD and other mental and/or behavioral issues. Suntheanine is the company mentioned as having the world’s only 100% pure raw material (which they’ve patented). Jigsaw’s L-theanine contains ONLY Suntheanine so it’s as good as it gets.
Hope this helps!

That fucking wanker deserves to die in prison. Taken far too soon RIP.
Please be aware that St. John’s Wort induces both intestinal and liver metabolism (cytochrome P450, CYP3A) which can increase the clearance of a number of opioids and thus possibly decrease the effectiveness of these drugs.

I'm pretty sure being sad about something is from an outside variable, and actually being 'clinically cdepressed' is when you have a chemical imbalance in your brain (something with serotonin 'the happy chemical') that wont allow you to be fully happy.

It has a number of signatures which make it holy, according to folklore. Its leaves appear to be pierced like the nails in Christ's hands, since they contain oil glands which look transparent if they're held up to the sun. Its petals bruise red, like Christ's blood. It's said never to grow taller than 33 inches, the number of years Christ lived on this Earth. The St John is to do with St John the Baptist, but beyond that i don't know.
