Glucosamine and stomach problem?
Hi all, My mom is using glucosamine (in liquid) and produced by Synflex feel any problem with your stomach. He said that glucosamine has few side effects but can cause stomach problems. I'm not sure whether to continue or to stop using it? Thanks,
I had to stop taking it because of the easy to stomach has a delicate stomach, like me, it might be prudent to suspend it.

I bought some Sta-Sound for my dads dog Sky…a 13 year old Great Pyrenees that guards his farm from predators and is the family pet as wellmy kids just love her. Sky was shot in the hip when she was younger and has always had a slight limp but could still chase off the coyotes. Do you mean the solution injected into the joint? The manufacturers claim it can delay surgery in arthritic knees for about 1-2 years depending on the severity of the disease. Haven't come across liquid taken orally. Oral tabs usually are made from shellfish. If you are allergic to shellfish, you shouldn't take the tabs.

My gf takes glucosamine for the osteoarthritis in her knees. It helps decrease the amount of wearing in the joints. I did hear that they have been using it for animals so go for it.
I use Glucosamine with MSM, 1500 mg., that I purchase from Costco, the Kirkland brand. 375 tablets per bottle for, and I can't really remember, around $25.00 a bottle. Way cheaper than buying anything from a vet.

The problem with pain meds. is long term, they do have side effects – although at 12 years, maybe the benefits outweigh the cons in that regard! I had my old girl on Metacam end days and she had extra time while on it so it was worth the risk. Incidentally at one point she had Tramadol, but it completely spaced her out, and in that instance, the benefits were zero. She came off that, fast.
I've used, to good effect, Vitapet R & A formula. Cod liver oil can help too.
As for pills vs. liquid, I go for pills every time as it's easy to lob a pill down my Basset's mouth, at any rate. Not quite so sure about my Whippet. If you can give it in liquid form via a syringe, that would avoid messing up his food (taste and smell!) Depends on your dog.

Is it injected into the joint? or is it an oral dose? I’ve been taking oral pill doses of the same stuff, but it hasn’t helped enough yet.

This is a good question. Joint supplements are a good idea, though too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Your vet should be able to answer this question with a simple phone call, or stop into the clinic.
I'm not aware of what happens with an overdose of joint supplements, but I would hold off on giving all of them until you consult your vet. Just do one for now.
