5 Major berry bushes for edible backyard garden

If you are an eco-friendly, organic kind (or simply love the idea of growing your own food), may be just the type of plant berry bushes in their backyard. Why pay a fortune for a pint of organic berries Whole Foods Store, where you can grow your own? They are a perfect complement to a landscape "edible", and, unlike vegetables, which has no be planted again and again each year. These long-term crops grow to maturity and will bear fruit for years, even decades to come. It's a little how to earn passive income in the financial world. Plant this summer and enjoy the harvest, with minimal maintenance required over the coming years.

Now that you are sold, lets take a look at some common and not so common "(but very funny!) berry bushes can be planted:

1. Blueberry

Everybody loves blueberries, and are good for you too. There are dozens of varieties, and range in height from a few feet tall to over six feet tall at maturity, so you can find the perfect size for your yard. Can also be grown in pots, so they are a great option if you live in a condominium or an apartment with just a little yard space for gardening. Blueberries do particularly well in the Pacific Northwest and other climates where the soil acid is the norm (if you live elsewhere, you can amend your soil for your blueberries happy, especially if growing in containers).

2. Wolfberry (Goji Berry AKA)

Blueberries are very common, and can be purchased in the spring at any nursery, so let's talk about something less common. If food shops healthy, you've probably seen dried goji berries (and numerous products with goji berries) on the shelves recently. Although relatively new in the U.S. that have existed in the East for a long time and are super! They have a lot of antioxidants and other health benefits, as growing some at home has much sense. Wolfberries grow on a vine, but a kind of bushy vine rather than the type you need to crate by the side of a building or tree. Your local nursery will probably not lead, but you can order online from places like wolfberry vine Raintree Washington State.

3. Elderberries

Another unusual berry bush (although people have been making wine elderberry ages), elderberry shrubs come in a number of edible varieties. Blue Elderberry, with its powder blue berries, is particularly striking. One advantage of this shrub is that it is easy to grow and produce a ton of grain, what really gets their money's worth! You can eat fresh berries when ripe (which are higher in vitamin C than oranges), or convert in cakes, jellies, tea, or wine excursions. Elderberries are also known to have medicinal value.

4. Raspberries and Blackberries

Okay, enough of the exotic matter, right? Let's talk about delicious raspberries and blackberries. Both grow on the stems (some are independent, while others must trellis) and can be found in a variety of species. If you have been pushed by the thorns on several occasions, you can appreciate especially the thornless varieties. Since raspberries and blackberries can spread a little (its root systems can extend several feet underground, causing rods to appear in unexpected places), will have take some care to put your berries. You might also consider keeping them confined to large containers or raised beds with weed block material at the bottom.

5. Cranberry

If you've ever traveled in Scandinavia (or gone to the local Norwegian pancake breakfast), you've probably had blueberries. These berries like blueberries are used in sauces, jellies, and cooking. They do not take up much space either, as most species that grow from 8 "to 16" high. They do like to spread, however, so they can make a big choice of edible ground cover.

There you have it: five berries that are easy to grow in many climates. Plant a few years and enjoy this fruit in the coming years!
