Vitamin or mineral do not work? How the hell do we do to our daily nutrition, then?
I have been reading and hearing that the pills vitamin may do more harm than good (not sure why) and that do not work, so how in the world can get their daily value of vitamins and minerals?
Hello, I'm always impressed that there is often good advice and good connections of people helping others through Yahoo_Answers. First, their concerns about supplements are valid. If you look at the label on a bottle of Geritol iron, is said to be poisonous. Also, you can eat the liver of iron there would be many times the amount which would kill Geritol and would not hurt a bit. The difference is the type of iron synthesized. Synthetic supplements B12 have the same problem. In addition, supplements of vitamin A Beta Carotene have killed people too. I poisoned my own liver with metallic copper in yeast nutrition, which was the copper oxide copper pots grown in. I take supplements to promote healthy hair growth. I take a total of 23 different supplements. My mother has been doing something similar for years, and she has never had any problems. I actually have a nutrition book for my college course that has the basic requirements of all types of horses (foal, weanling, yearling, 2 yearold, maintanence, light work, moderate work, and heavy work). I dont have the book with me but I can answer the question later when I can get the book.
Alright I have my book: I am basing this off of a horse that is about 1000lbs.
DO NOT FEED YOUR HORSE MORE THAN 2.5 percent of his body weight. YOU WILL FOUNDER YOUR HORSE if you try to feed him more than about 1.5 percent of his body weight in grain. Besides he wont beable to eat that much anyway. Feeding your horse 5% of his body weight in grain and hay combined is WAY, let me express WAY too much food.

For Maintenance: Daily nutient requirements The diet should contain at least 16.4 Mcals of Deitary Energy, 656 grams of Crude Protein, 23 grams of Lysine, 20 grams of calcium, 14 grams of phosphorous, 7.5 grams of magnesium, and 25.0 grams of potassium. You should feed your horses 1.75 percent of their body weight in hay. Most of the nutrients are going to come out of the hay as that is going to be the bulk of the diet. So the concentate grain that is fed is just to finish meeing the requirements.
For a horse that is doing moderate work:
It needs 20.5 Mcals of dietary energy, 984 grams of crude protein, 34 grams of lysine, 30 grams of calcium, 21 grams of phosphorous, 11.3 grams of magnesium, and 37.4 grams of potassium.
For a pregnant mare:
At the very end of gestation she is going to need the most.
At 11 months gestation she needs:
19.7Mcal of dietary energy, 866 grams of crude protein, 30 grams of lysine, 37 grams of calcium, 28 grams of phosphorous, 9.4 grams of magnesium, and 31.5 grams of potassium.
For 9 and 10 months gestation she needs 18.2 Mcals of dietary energy (9 months) and 18.5 Mcals of dietary energy (10months) and 801 grams of Crude protein (9 months) and 815 g of crude protein (10 months). The rest of the numbers are about the same for the rest.
For lactating mares:
from foaling to 3 months.
28.3Mcals of dietary energy, 1427 grams of crude protein, 50 grams of lysine, 56 grams of calcium, 36 grams of phosphorous, 10.9 grams of magnesium and 46 grams of potassium.
From 3months to weaning: Requirements drop back.
24.3 Mcal of dietary energy, 1048 grams of crude protein, 37 grams of lysine, 36 grams of calcium, 22 grams of phosphorous, 8.6 grams of magnesium, and 33 grams of potassium.
These numbers are all based off of a horse that weighs about 1000lbs. Numbers will be slightly less if the horse weighs less and slightly more if the horse weighs more.
Feeds that have alot of energy in them would be:
corn, milo, dried distillers grains, oat middlings, groats, linseed meal (flaxseed), fish soluables, fish meal, poultry fat, meat and bone meal, sorghum silage, soybeans, and soybean meal, vegetable oil (can be added to grain), and thats all I can think of right now.
Hope this helps, I know its alot of numbers and stuff. I would try to balance out a ration for you but I'd need to have all of the information for the horse and it would take alittle bit of time, I have finals next week otherwise I would actually have time to do it.
Well you'll be more hydrated and will have more energy. You might also want to start jogging or biking, you'll see a huge difference in energy levels. =)

I wouldn't want to resort to such tablets, to know that I'm losing weight but taking pills, feels like cheating!!
I know someone who's had these though, who thought she could overeat. The silly cow was stuck in the bog all day with the runs, ha ha ha.
I think, if say someone was to start exercising (like on the prescription) and it is proved, perhaps they should have this as a kickstart. I feel they shouldn't be very long term though, perhaps just as a kick start but not if the person isn't exercising as when they come off Alli, they'll just gain weight again!!
What message though, this is what worries is, is it sending to children?! Yes, go and have that cake & chips because you can have a tablet to make you lose weight. Arrrrrgh. Especially at the age of 15, when I doubt they can get it. I'm presuming there is an age thing on it till at least 18? Anyway, so they carry on eating because at 18 they can get this tablet!
And! I'm so glad someone has said about our obsession. We are obsessed with fat & being thin. There is NO emphasis on MODERATION!! Like vitamins, minerals & what we need but that we can have treats. I've worked with children terrified of having a treat because they have this idea that if you eat anything unhealthy you will instantly get fat. One girl ran off in tears when we had a BBQ style day with burgers. A 6 year old. We had salads & burgers. It was so sad to see.
I worked in a school also, and the childrens lunch boxes were VERY restricted, they couldn't even have snackajacks. How is restricting a treat healthy, people are more likely to gauge out on unhealthy stuff then. One girl I worked with, 7 at the time, she would have a sandwich on brown bread with salad in it, lots & lots of fruit & veg, fruit juice or water & one treat. It could be something like a mini roll or baked crisps. She was told she couldn't have the treat?!?!?! That's teaching children an extreme, its as bad as teaching children to eat fat. If a child is bought up with the fear of being fat, you are going to see a rise in anorexia & bulimia, which we are. I think it's partly down to not being taught moderation, not just the media.
Anyway, sorry to ramble! It is annoying

I take a vitamin supplement that has Vitamins, Minerals, with antioxidants. There are tons out there on the market, but Vemma (the brand I take) is one of the few Premium Liquid supplements on the market. I particularly like the fact that it is liquid because it absorbs better into your body than pills. There is a ton of research you can check out at the referenced website below for more detailed information. I have been taking the product for over 2 years and have never felt better. that sounds familar to what happened to me when I had a seizure- first I had an intense pain in my gut which led to shallow breathing-then I felt like I was going to lose "bladder control" and headed for the bathroom -passed out-got back up a second later and my guy took me to the bathroom where I started crying something about not wanting to have a cold and be sick-then I was extremely hot and passed out again for a few minutes-my guy said my legs were kicking.I never found out why it happened and figured it was a combo of pms,lack of food and too much yard work.hope you find out the cause-good luck..my doctor ordered a EEG and cat scan but I was a week late getting test done and they showed nothing
